August Book Giveaway

August 4, 2011

“No–no–I can’t part with it, I can’t let it go,” said Silas, abruptly. “It’s come to me–I’ve a right to keep it.”

George Eliot’s beautiful novel Silas Marner was first published in 1861. If you haven’t managed to read it yet (in the past 150 years) now’s your chance. The George Eliot Fellowship have very generously donated twenty copies to giveaway. So, if you would like a chance to receive a copy of the book sent to you (FREE POSTAGE worldwide) just leave your name by clicking on the comment button below.

Twenty names will be pulled out of the hat after midnight on Wednesday 31st August. If your name is chosen I will then email you directly for your preferred postal address.

Good luck!

Since it’s been waiting patiently on the bookshelf for 150 years I’ll take a copy out for a read. I’m ashamed to say I have only read one of her books.

  6. Yes please! To be fair I’ve only had 46years, and only about 30 when I was actually capable of reading and appreciating it. Still, you’re probably right, it’s time I stopped thinking about it and just got on and read it. 😉

Having been inspired by this story, as a child, I would like to pass on a ‘new’ copy of Silas Marner to one of my ‘literary’ granddaughters, who devours books but as yet has not read this one!

So glad that so many people want a copy of Silas Marner. It is its 150th anniversary. Any local (Nuneaton, Bedworth, Hinckley, Coventry area) readers who would like to come together as a reading group for it, please let me know. The George Eliot Fellowship would be happy to arrange it.
Also of course, you might all be interested in our annual event on 1st October when Giles Foster (he directed the famous Ben Kingsley Silas Marner for the BBC) and William Greenslade will be discussing Silas Marner. Then on 15th October Gabriel Woolf and Rosalind Shanks will be doing their famous reading/performing of bits of Silas Marner at Chilvers Coton Parish Church, and in November for three nights students of King Edward College Nuneaton will be performing their adaptation of it in Bedworth Arts Centre and Nuneaton Arts Centre.
More details from me, oer send your email to me and I’ll keep you on the emailing list!
